Messier 87 Virgo A

M87 is a giant elliptical galaxy (E0) in the Virgo Cluster, M87 is a strong radio source, known as 3C274 or Virgo A. M87's diameter of apparently about 7' corresponds to a linear extension of 120,000 light years, more than the diameter of our Milky Way's disk.

In a 8-inch scope, this galaxy is pretty bright, and it looks almost like a globular cluster. It is mostly spherical. There is a field star nearby which is brighter than the galaxy itself. The core looks stellar.
