Messier 72

M72 is a globular cluster in the constellation Aquarius. One of the more remote Messier globulars, at around 53,000 light-years, it does not have a very compact core. Somewhat over 90 light-years across, because it is so distant it is actually one of the intrinsically brightest globulars known.

This globular is pretty faint. In a 8" at 188X it starts to become dim and barely distinguishable from the background. It can be hard to resolve any stars, giving it the appearance of a large, faint planetary nebula. Some have said it is a lot like M71, except a bit fainter.
