Messier 69

M69, a globular cluster in the constellation Sagittarius, is one of the smaller and fainter globular clusters listed by Messier, and quite similar to its neighbor M70. It is about 50 light-years across at a distance of some 25,000 light-years.

In a 8" scope at 188X, M69 is hard to resolve. Even though it is slightly brighter, it appears to be even harder to resolve than M70. It is a circular patch of light. Although it did appear mottled, individual stars were not detectable. In the same field was a bright star, which is more than a little bit distracting.
