Messier 66

M66 is a spiral galaxy of type Sb in the constellation Leo. At a distance of about 35 million light-years, M66 apparently forms a triplet with its neighbors M65 and NGC3628

In 7x50 binoculars, this dim little pair was surprisingly easy to spot with averted vision, near a very distinctive chain of mag 7-9 stars S and SE of 73 Leo.
In a 8-inch scope, M65 and M66 both fit in the field of view, M66 at 9.7 mag was similar but the central core was a bit brighter.
