![]() | M65 is a spiral galaxy of type Sa in the constellation Leo. At a distance of about 35 million light-years, M65 apparently forms a triplet with its neighbors M66 and NGC3628. In a 8-inch scope, M65 and M66 will barely fit within the same field of view using a 25mm (49X) eyepiece. They both appear as faint smudges of light. M65 is oblong in appearance (similar looking to M82), but no detail could be discerned within the arms. M65 and M66 are easy to detect from a dark site. At higher than 49X, the other galactic component of the Trio in Leo (NGC 3628), is plainly visible. |
