Messier 5

M5 is another globular that should have more fans. With a very steady dark sky, you can see it shining brilliantly with your naked eye. With a 10-inch telescope, you may view about 300 stars in the field of M5.

At 49X this cluster was easily found. A few stars were resolved with one very bright star to the SW. At high powers this is a grand cluster in an 8" scope. It appears very large and round with a bright center. Fully resolved right to the core, the stars appear to form arms that radiate from the center outwards arcing around the cluster. .
