Messier 31 Andromeda Galaxy

Located in the constellation of Andromeda, the Princess, the Andromeda Galaxy is a large spiral galaxy very similar to our own Galaxy, the Milky Way. It is over 110,000 light-years in diameter and approximately 2.2 million light-years in distance. M31 contains over 300 billion stars within it's diameter.

In 7x50 binoculars M31 is a stunning object in binos under a dark sky, this object can also shows some hints of detail in its spiral arms.
In a 8-inch scope at 49X, the galaxy has a nice, large, fuzzy core. The large spiral arms makes a hazy glow stretching out from both sides of the core, easily extending past the field of view. Detecting any sign of the main dust lane can be difficult.
