Messier 2

M2 is just below naked-eye visibility for most people, though it is readily seen in binoculars. This globular cannot be resolved by a 4inch, which shows a brightening toward the center.

With a 8-inch scope it's pretty large, but it still fits nicely in the field of view at 305x. The cluster appears symmetrical, and its stars are just barely resolvable. With dark adapted eyes, you can detect hundred of pinpoint stars. With a 10-inch, stars can be detected across the entire disk of M2 on a good night.
