Messier 12

M12 is a globular cluster in the constellation Ophiuchus, very similar to its near neighbor M10, although much less centrally concentrated. M12 is around 70 light-years across and some 15,000 light-years away.

For a Messier globular, this one is fairly faint. In a 8-inch scope at 188X, it was partially resolved. Little patches of stars could be seen amongst a fuzzy background. This globular had a somewhat irregular shape to it. Several fairly bright field stars surrounded the cluster.
