NGC6822 Irregular Galaxy

45. NGC6822 Irregular Galaxy
In 1884 E. E. Barnard discovered this irregular dwarf galaxy with a 5 -inch refractor. This member of the Local Group is the only dwarf that amateurs have much chance of seeing. Nevertheless, it is a rather difficult object, for its substantial total light is spread out over a large area. Like M33, NGC 6822 is often visible in finders but difficult in a 10-inch.
