NGC4594 (M104) Galaxy

26. NGC4594 (M104) Galaxy
M104 is the famous Sombrero galaxy, an edge-on spiral with a marked central bulge and conspicuous dark rim of dust. In a 16-inch this band cuts the bulge into two parts, but in smaller instruments the rim is evident only as a slight darkening across the northern part of the galaxy's disk. This effect has been noticed with only a 4-inch aperture, but an excellent night is required.
