11. NGC2099 (M37) Open Cluster
Of the many splashy star clusters in Auriga, M37 is the loveliest by far. Dimly visible to the unaided eye on a dark night, this cluster glows pleasantly in binoculars and resolves into a cascade of stars in a 4-inch. In his Cycle of Celestial Objects, the granddaddy of modern observing guides, Admiral Smyth described the field as "being strewed as it were with sparkling gold-dust."
